Description Habitat: Moist and sandy soils mostly along in woods, along streams and in thickets.
Plant: Perennial climbing, twining vine 15 ft. or more long with tendrils from stem tips to climb on trees, bushes, or structures; milky sap.
Leaves: Opposite, ovate-elliptic, the base deeply cordate, 1.6 to 7.8 inches long on petioles up to 4 inches long; leaf tips tapered to a sharp point, and with entire margins.
Inforescence: Clusters of 2 to 25 flowers arising from leaf axils, each blossom with 5 narrowly lanceolate spreading corolla lobes that are yellowish-green, becoming purplish especially near bases; center corona is a yellow to orangish-brown, flattened, 5-angled disk below the green anther/stigma head.
Bloom Period: May to July.
Fruit: Hanging, smooth capsules (follicles) 0.3 to 0.6 inches long, lanceolate to narrowly ovate in outline, sharply 5-angled in cross-section.
